Corruption in government has been termed,"Systemic, epidemic, and total." I ask every oneRead More of my fellow citizens to ask every politician running for office, before you ask them anything else," Do you support campaign reform, and will you get it started?" Just watch them side step that issue! In fact, I will ask our current representatives that question now, starting with Sen. Feinstein.

Reminds me how the Waste Management companies lobbied local government to penalize the homeless forRead More taking recyclables from the curb trash receptacles. They threatened to fine my mother for putting her trash cans at the curb too early, allowing those in need to pilfer through the recyclables for a few dollars so that they could eat! Who's the ones in real need of those recycling dollars? The grease used to be discarded as garbage, until it became a commodity and valuable to a corporation... Holden knows whose interest is more important.

Do some research wvo is a commodity the directly affect food cost
Mitchell Miller March 28, 2014 at 12:11 pm
Okay come on now Tim, the class needs a little more than that to get the A. How does itRead More "directly affect food cost"? Seems to me there is a point when McDonalds french fry grease becomes useless & throwawayable. Who cares if people want to use it to fuel their cars? They are some of the most environmentally friendly "thieves" I've ever heard of

Oh lordy pie almighty, I can see the checks being issued to a psuedo-crack team of tech experts toRead More further distance us from our out of touch (though elected) supervisors. ChaChing!

The Democratic Party has been a huge disappointment to the majority of its members and the country.Read More The party has lost its traditional stand to support labor and fight against the corporate takeover of our nation. It is time to get get back to the "New Deal"programs that ignited the greatest growth in our nation's history. Giving more to the rich has not worked! New Deal Liberalism does. Get to work for the people for a change.

I have another word for them.... To continue my other argument. I understand that some newer carsRead More stereos that are stolen, become unusable to the thief...why couldn't some self destruct be built into a computer with the most sensitive info?
rubberband March 7, 2014 at 04:30 pm
Most people don't know how to function w/o their computers, debtcards and smart phones. They'd beRead More so in a heap of trouble if everything was taken from them data/information wise...we've sorta passed the point of no return with regard to protected information. Your idea is good, and I do know that many programmers write in a destruct code, or even encode a bug of sorts that tracks any traceable, trackable media sources should info/devices become stolen, thus leading law enforcement or rightful owners directly to the thief....whether it be digital or actual physical property. Internet/computers are great tools...we will have to adapt to figure out how to more reliably secure our information. Not much is private anymore.

Be alert Monrovia Voters. Chris Holden agrees with Judy Chu to take away our foothills and combineRead More them into a National Park. We're still paying for that property on our property tax bills. (2) Democrats claim they have balanced our State Budget and now there are excess funds available. Rather than pay down the State Debt Holden wants to spend it else where. Smoke and mirrors folks. (3) California spends more money per student than all other States, and look at the mess the California State Teachers Association has caused.

In my mind the "excess" funds need to be used to pay down the pension liability. What isRead More the issue with putting it into a national park?
R. Ray Morford February 20, 2014 at 08:23 am
Dear 81....Several years ago voters agreed to buy acreage above Monrovia to avoid furtherRead More development. The cost was added to our property tax bills. We're still paying. The Monrovia Wilderness Park has trails that can used etc. But by and large the area remains a wilderness. Residence next to the park would suffer dearly with a National Park, creating parking lots and roads into that area. The Government would take control, with their set of rules, rather than local control.

LOS ANGELES: The settlement came to be known as El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora la Reina de losRead More Angeles de Porciúncula or The Town of Our Lady the Queen of Angels of the Little Portion although its official name was simply El Pueblo de la Reina de Los Angeles The mission is a part of the early history, has been on the seal. Taking the cross off the mission for the seal is altering reality. Therefore the ant-religion people fear religion more than the religious are concerned for the seal. Now lets talk about tolerance. Lets say for example the seal had a group of people on the seal, but went to war against the seal to delete the Mexican in the picture. Or how about a seal with a real photo of a group of people, and some demanded the one that looks stereotypically gay? History is, what history is. The small paranoid group is demanding that actual reality is changed to suit THEIR beliefs. This small paranoid group is demanding history portray THEIR OWN FANTASY, and not reality. The early history of Los Angeles is not separable from missions with crosses. The very name of the city ---city of angels. When will the small paranoid group "demand" the city change its name to city of atheists, and everything else, "In government we trust" ?

I'd love the ACLU to go to Corpus Cristi, Texas and ask them to change their name, it means the bodyRead More of Christ. Or perhaps San Francisco, means Saint Francis. Lets not change history for any reason.

IS FIREPLACE BURNING THE NEW ALARMISM, OR FACT? The EPA is on a roll, with the Obama administration.Read More It is known now that the EPA waited until Obama won re-election in 2012 before bringing out a whole new set of regulations. No more wood burning stoves, among other things are happening. I am trying to learn what I can about the issue, and am just starting. If anyone has actual data, computer models and such, let me know. I went to the EPA site and can't find the "computer model" they use. I have read some articles, and just some of the same lines going around. One I found all over is: "Research shows that nearly 70 percent of chimney smoke reenters nearby buildings" END QUOTE That quote started here: - See more at: ( http://www.samharris.org/blog/item/the-fireplace-delusion#sthash.zLkuRo83.dpuf ) I cant find the data for scientific basis for fireplace smoke danger... ANYONE?.......

I qualified for low income , not proud of that but it does allow me to use my fireplace when I needRead More to or want to. Being aware of the particles emitted when burning I will only burn when it is uncomfortable even with a sweater on. Jiffy pop popped using the fireplace was fun as a kid, wonder if it is still fun?
