Thanks Rubberband. You are so correct. Some students do not have parent support. Tragic!!!!!! OtherRead More good teachers speak out and try to help, but political correctness (which I hate) along with rules stand in the way. Monrovia High School has improved greatly over the last few years. They deserve our continued support.

At present, I'm very concerned over Obama's "Common Core Education" plan. Parents need toRead More read/learn everything they can about the system before it sinks the ship. Cities do much better at the local level.

The common core is a well developed set of curriculum standards. As far as having to reviseRead More textbooks, that is common practice anyway. The reasons against common core are very very weak. Teacher's I know who are implementing the common core like it very much because it is more focused , manageable curriculum. One concern is that the testing of the standards might be used for merit pay for teachers. Teachers don't like that at all. There is plenty of room in the standards for states and districts to customize learning. The standards are broad and do do not dictate the specifics of what kind of literature students reading. For the math standards, math is math allow for

One of the biggest complaints companies that are hiring have with the incoming American kids intoRead More the workforce? They can't spell or build a coherent sentence...Most likely due to not having spent enough time on grammar and be required to SPEAK out loud in the classroom; our kids are having difficulty writing/speaking an intelligent, well structured sentence. If common core helps address that issue, GOOD.

Hey mom and dad keep an eye on your own child. Of course if your child is on their social mediaRead More during school time then fair game , at home parents get off your bums and keep an eye on YOUR child's activities. It's YOUR job to raise YOUR child. Hey kids if you don't like what is being said about you go to an adult with it. Don't be afraid to speak up.

Not liking the consequences of misuse of social media is very different than having your childrenRead More spied upon. This is a parenting issue, and a wonderful opportunity to listen to what your kids tell you about school, pressure, other kids, and bullying of any kind that they cope with on a daily basis. It's a great time for ALL of you, kids and parents alike to learn safe internet protocol and how to make intelligent DRAMA FREE choices when setting up social media...KNOW what your kids are doing. Parent them. You will not like the results if your leave this job to the state. (it would also be very useful if facebook/twitter drama moms and dads would stop showing their kids how to be nasty jerks on line as well...many kids learn bullying and other nasty habits from watching and listening to their PARENTS....Grow up already and stop stirring the pot and making grief where there isn't any...)

Interesting...Randi, I've heard this before...Please tell me why....

Change in the school board essentially. Our kids needed a good supervisor and we signed theRead More petitions for Debby's Collins. Then, what do they do...go outside and hire Thorossian. Nothing against her, but we thought it best to hire from within and Collins was one of the best people to keep our schools above par because she knows Monrovia. This school board is pretty lame as it is.
