The Monrovia Police Department  is located on Lime Avenue adjacent to city hall and comprises 63 sworn officers…More and 22 civilian staff.</p> <p>The MPD operates under a "Community Policing" philosophy that emphasizes "quality programs that enhance the efforts of the community and police to combat gangs and illegal drug trafficking and to eliminate blighted areas," according to the MPD website. The department is responsible for enforcing the Monrovia's gang injunction, which the city obtained in 2009.</p> <p>The MPD has a detective bureau but homicides in the city are investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Homicide Bureau.</p> <p>Police Chief Roger Johnson has held his position since 2002.</p>
