Larry Stewart brings a veteran journalist's experience to Patch.com. He has been getting by-lines since 1960, when he was a freshman in high school in the tiny San Joaquin Valley community of Strathmore. He covered his school's sports teams for several local papers.

A 1968 graduate of Fresno State, Stewart covered prep sports for the Fresno Bee during his college years. After college, he worked for the Visalia Times-Delta as a general assignment reporter before being promoted to assistant editor of the newspaper.

Stewart joined the Los Angeles Herald Examiner as a sports writer in 1969 and was promoted to assistant sports editor of that newspaper in 1974.

He left the Herald Examiner for the L.A. Times in 1978, where he worked as both an editor and sports reporter. He was best known for his weekly column on sports television and radio, a column he began writing for the Herald Examiner in 1973.

In all, Stewart wrote his TV-Radio column for nearly 35 years.

The Times assigned Stewart to the horse racing beat in 2007. Stewart left the Times in the summer of 2008 and has since covered horse racing on a free-lance basis for several publications, including the Thoroughbred Times, a national magazine based in Lexington, Ky.

Stewart, an Arcadia resident since 1978, has also been writing about various local topics for Arcadiasbest.com since leaving the Times.
