Updated: Child Abducted, Frees Himself in Unincorporated Monrovia

The 6-year-old bit the suspect and was able to escape after he was kidnapped from his yard.

A 6-year-old child was able to free himself after being abducted from his backyard by a man in unincorporated Monrovia, a sheriffs official said.

The child was grabbed from his home in the 2500 block of Graydon Avenue and carried about a block before he bit the suspect and then ran to safety, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Lt. Michael White said.

"A male Hispanic entered the yard and carried him out of the yard," White said. "He carried him out of the yard and the child was able to free himself by biting the suspect."

The kidnapping occurred at approximately 4 p.m., White said. The only additional description of the suspect was that he was between 25 and 40 years old, he said.

Bloodhounds were dispatched to the area, but no one was apprehended, White said. The kidnapping was not related to any other case that White was aware of.

CBS 2 News spoke with the child's parents, whom they identified as Dominic and Ashley Barrera.

“Someone came into our yard. And picked up our son…like a football," Barrera told the news station. "And then ran down the block and took him. My kid was kicking and biting and screaming. He dropped my son. And then he ran back here."

NBC 4 News reported that the child provided a description to police for a composite sketch.
