Millions To Participate in Great California ShakeOut

The statewide event is scheduled for Thursday.

Millions of Californians will participate in the annual earthquake drill known as the Great California ShakeOut Thursday.

The drill is scheduled for 10:17 a.m.

According to the Shakeout website, 9.3 million Californians are officially registered for the event, with just over 4.1 million participating in Southern California alone.

Local organizations are registered as part of the drill, including the Monrovia Unified School District and the U. S. Forest Service.

When 10:17 a.m. arrives, everyone is instructed to "drop, cover and hold." Everyone is also encouraged to review and update emergency preparedness plans and supplies and to secure your space to prevent damage and injuries.

Officials tout numerous ways for various organizations to participate in the ShakeOut. Click the link to find ways to take part in the drill.
