VFW Offering $10 BBQ Meal to Help Homeless Veteran

Arcadia-Monrovia VFW Post 2070 will offer a $10 bar-be-cue lunch and dinner fundraiser this coming Friday, December 13, in order to raise money for its Post Relief Fund.  Proceeds from the event  will go to support a homeless Iraq war veteran, as well as other elderly and needy veterans in the local area.

Food for the event has been donated by several local businesses. Additionally, talk radio host Bryan Suits, himself an Iraqi Freedom veteran, will be making an appearance during the day. There will also be live entertainment.

"We have one particular young man who had some set backs through no fault of his own, and ended up on the streets," said Clint Stamps, commander of Post 2070.  "We've got him a temporary place, but we want to raise enough money to give first and last month's rent on a home he can move to permanently, ideally before Christmas."  He noted that the holidays are often tough for many folks, especially the elderly, and additional proceeds will be used to support them through the post's Relief Fund.

The BBQ meal will be served from 11am to 8pm. RSVPs are requested to help with planning, but not required.  Simply call the Post at (626) 359-9998. Anyone wishing to make a donation can send a check to the Post made out to "Post 2070 Relief Fund" and mail it to the same address.  For more information, log on to the Post's Web page, www.vfw2070.org.
