The Monrovia resident who shot a photo of a bear next to his "Please Wipe Your Paws" welcome mat discovered his dog Cody had a small "battle scar" after chasing the bear up a tree.
"While I appreciate his bravery, I had hoped he would know enough not to take on a bear. I guess I was wrong!," Mauna Loa Avenue resident Brian Ulm posted on Facebook.
Luckily the injury was minor and Ulm said the bear showed restraint since Cody apparently chased it up a tree.
